Welcome to the Penobscot Marine Museum

Founded in 1936, the Penobscot Maritime Museum originally occupied a sole building, the Old Town Hall, which was provided by the town. The Museum has since grown to fill thirteen buildings, eight of which are now on the National Register of Historic Places. The Penobscot Maritime Museum is the oldest maritime museum in the state.

The Museum maintains an extensive assortment of maritime paraphernalia, including an array of full-sized boats. Rotating exhibits are also featured in the museum, as are displays that showcase other facets of Penobscot life, such as what a seacaptian's house may have been like. Other displays such as one focusing on childhood in a seafaring community, or one with artifacts from the orient, are also present. The Museum also maintains the Searsport Congregational Church.
